Abstract

Polystyrene (PS) was submitted to CO2, N-2 and air plasma. The chemical composition of the modified polymers was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy( XPS). It was found that the surface of the modified polymers had some functional groups, besides the original bonds. These groups may improve the soakage and adhesion of the polymers. In addition, the amounts of the oxygen and the nitrogen combined with the PS surface are heavily effected by the plasma conditions.
