Abstract

Inspired by nature, artificial molecular machines have been synthesised by chemists to perform functional roles. One such function is the synthesis of other molecules such as synthesising sequence-specific peptides, which has been recently achieved by Leigh and co-workers.This report details the efforts made towards the synthesis of a novel rotaxane-based molecular machine that forms other peptides using other approaches, from the design towards the synthesis. Previous methodologies and design were utilised within the project. Key building blocks were synthesised and fully characterised. A number of synthetic routes were investigated and are described.
