We discuss the scattering of acoustic and elastic waves from periodic arrays of aligned cylinders of arbitrary cross section, via the boundary element method. We introduce a novel means of calculating the quasi-periodic Greenâs function for the acoustic case, and the quasi-periodic Greenâs tensor for the elastodynamic problem. We also discuss the giant monopole resonance that arises for high contrast materials, and the effect of cavity shape on the size and frequency of the resonance.
