Student thesis: Phd

Abstract

This thesis explores corporate strategies designed for large organisation within a community. More specifically this research utilises the Corporate Heritage Identity and Corporate Heritage Identity Stewardship to explore Bonwire, which is located in Ghana, and is known for the textile production which has been ongoing for over 300 years. This research utilised a case study approach which allowed for conducting interviews with different stakeholders, secondary research and originally intended to conduct observations. Due to COVID the latter was no longer viable. The data obtained was analysed using the grounded approach which allowed more flexibility in terms of themes that emerged. This thesis uses the journal format and is divided into four articles; - Article 1 is a conceptual paper that synthesises corporate heritage identity and corporate identity which resulted in a conceptual framework. This framework was used within one of the data driven papers to see whether it is applicable within Bonwire. - Article 2 focuses on the role of sustainability within the supply chain process which links to corporate heritage identity which is based on secondary analysis. - Article 3 is a book chapter based on data obtained that explores the loom as part of the identity creation process. - Article 4 uses the framework developed in Article 1 to explore the corporate heritage identity stewardship process within a community, specifically Bonwire. The thesis concludes with key contributions made to theory and provides a future outlook for further studies.
