The aims of my work, for which the publications presented give evidence, have been to record and disseminate knowledge and experience from a career as a water resources ‘practitioner’ working in many countries of Africa, South and East Asia, North & South America, and Europe, with a focus on two primary issues: water security and international transboundary waters (including rivers and lakes). This ‘feedback loop’ between acquiring field experience and developing conceptual approaches leading to academic publications is beneficial – as are the academic publications, analysing experience and ideas, beneficial for targeted work in the field.
