Mechanistic Studies of Catalytic Reactions

Student thesis: Phd

Abstract

Mechanistic understanding is a key tool for the improvement of reactions and the development of new synthetic pathways, however, the importance and difficulty of performing a rigorous kinetic study is often overlooked. In the Burés group, we have a simple moto, “better understanding for better reactions”. We seek to develop better methods for monitoring reactions and interpreting the results of this monitoring, then apply these methods to underperforming or poorly realised reactions. This thesis contains the work I performed to further this ethos during my time in the Burés group.
