This composition portfolio consists of nine original compositions listed chronologically below: 1. Entwine (orchestra, 2020), 2. Reflections (solo violoncello, 2021), 3. Straight Shot Blues (solo clarinet in Bb, 2021), 4. Lodestones (violin and piano, 2021), 5. Litmus Papers (orchestra, 2021-22), 6. Ildaite (string quartet, 2022), 7. Imperium (violin duo, 2022), 8. Quiver (solo piano, 2022), 9. In Flux (flute, violin, violoncello and piano; 2023). The accompanying commentary frames these compositions according to three specific research threads which examine the potential for new harmonic colours and relationships in Equal Temperament (ET). The exploration of simple and complex pitch-based anchors in ET will be followed by detailed discussions on the concept of flexible pitch areas, culminating in my new theory of major and minor series. I will finally consider the broader concern of colour by investigating the sonorous implications of connecting visual and harmonic colours. All three research threads adopt both a chromatic and a post-spectral approach in a quest to reveal innovative harmonic strategies in ET.
