Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to find out gaps, build future agendas, investigate valuable areas of SPT, and develop SPT further. SPT is increasingly significant in providing an overview perspective on social context. This thesis adopts a systematic literature review as a methodology to compare and analyse the existing materials in the databases of Scopus and ProQuest. Design and Findings: Adopting Paul et al.’s (2021) SPAR-4-SLR protocol, the thesis analysed twenty-one articles on SPT’s application in the fashion field. The findings indicate that existing bundle of components of the material, meaning, and competences integrate practice, while other components of rules and settings started to be outlined recently. Also, practice is featured with non-reflexive, as practices and behaviours are affected by behind unconscious social context. So, SPT is a theory that emphasizes the totality of individual and social structure, working as a bridge connecting individuals’ choices and social forces. Although SPT has been applied to different types of practices in the fashion context, e.g. design, consumption, and disposal, most of those studies are from the consumption side for the purpose of changing existing patterns/behaviours. Originality & Values: This thesis is one of the first systematic literature reviews that compare SPT in a fashion context by providing different practices. Answering raised gaps may contribute to challenging the existing material-competence-meaning structure of the practice of Shove et al. (2012). Further, exploring how social context and social relationships affect changing practices, may be guidance for change, and also, answer whether education or the practice itself should be the focus on leading changes.
